When it’s grim as it gets outside, it’s not as if you’re spoilt for choice with a thousand and one activities up for grabs. You could binge all the box sets you’ve had your eye on, but why not invest your time in something more practical this winter?
For the record, we’re not talking about spending winter in its entirety renovating your home. Instead, we’re simply talking about the quick and easy interior painting projects that can make a real difference in no time at all.
As we’ve covered on a multitude of occasions, the winter can actually be the perfect time for indoor painting tasks of all shapes and sizes. If looking for a job that’s well within your capabilities and is guaranteed to transform the visual dynamic of your home, give thought to one of the following weekend painting projects:
A Radical Color Change
What’s great about painted walls and ceilings is the way in which there’s limitless scope for experimentation. If you paint your interiors a color (or combination of colors) you’re not happy with, you can simply start again with something new.
In which case, why not experiment with a radical change of color this winter? If you’ve always played it safe, now could be the perfect time to try sprucing up your interiors with something completely different. Set your sights on one specific room, cover your possessions and get busy with a shade you’ve never brought into your home before.
Paint Your Stairs
Not literally the stairs themselves, but all the various hardware and other bits and pieces that accompany them. Handrails, trim and so on – all with the potential to making massive difference to the look and feel of the entire space.
This also tends to be one of the easiest jobs to tackle during the winter, which (if preferred) can be dipped in and out of from time to time. Go for something that blends in seamlessly with its surroundings, or opt for something bold and colorful for a contrasting effect. Again, you can always change your mind and go back to something safer, if not happy with the result.
Paint Your Kitchen Cabinets
There’s really nothing you can do to transform your kitchen more quickly, easily and cheaply than painting your kitchen cabinets. It’s a simple yet enormously effective project almost anyone can handle, which involves removing the doors from your cabinets and drawers, removing the hardware (hinges, handles etc.) and getting to work with some paint, primer and sandpaper.
Oftentimes, simply painting kitchen cabinets can bring about just as radical a visual overhaul as the installation of an entirely new kitchen. All at a fraction of the price and by way of a job that’s easy enough to complete within a single weekend. Definitely one to try out, when there’s not much else happening this winter.
Show Your Basement Some Love
This job is worth considering for the simple reason that it tends to be put off indefinitely by most homeowners. Even if you don’t use your basement for any purpose of real importance, it’s still a good idea to show it some love from time to time.
Conduct an inspection and note for areas that could do with being repaired, get to work with some sandpaper and prime your walls (and ceilings) for a fresh coat of paint. It’s the kind of job that only needs to be done once every few years, but you’ll nonetheless be seriously glad you’ve done it and got it out of the way.
Paint Trim and Detail
Last up, painting interior doors is another ideal interior painting project for the winter. If looking for something even quicker and easier, you could simply set your sights on the various trim and detail around your home. Door frames, window frames, baseboards, decorative woodwork – all prime for painting.
What’s great about interior painting projects like this is the way in which you can approach them a bit at a time. One frame today, one baseboard at the weekend and so on. Great for chipping away at through the winter, building towards something special by the time the spring rolls around.
