Talked to Andres after my general contractor (basement renovation) gave a high estimate to do the main+upstairs painting as well. Homm provided a quick informal estimate, and after a timely onsite inspection the final estimate came in almost identical to the verbal and well below the general contractor. Homm generally uses Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore - our estimate was based on SW Duration which is what we used for the project. Homm did a GREAT job. Andres was very responsive to changes and additional requests and when he had travel (work was done over holidays) Roger stepped in seamlessly to ensure work completed to our satisfaction. More importantly, the crew arrived right on time on both days and worked hard. We have an older house and had a lot of bad nailpops and other wall damage. I was impressed with how well they were able to correct these. Roger also pointed out a hall where previous owners had painted over wallpaper and was frank about the options and risks without pushing for more money. We elected to save the money and at the close of the job you can't see the seam. We had six painters for most of the job including Walter the site foreman who was fastidious throughout and ran multiple final checks/touchups before the final walkthrough with me. They are great about cleaning up after themselves throughout the job. The job completed in 2 days versus the 3 scheduled (perhaps because of the staff available) even after we added another room to the project. Will be first on a list for any future work - they are not the cheapest (but close) but quality and professionalism is top marks for the money.

We are very satisfied with Homm's crew’s professionalism, industry and completion of the job in three days. While one crew member was power washing on the first day, others climbed ladders and sanded and puttied the window muntins in preparation for painting. After the weekend, the crew applied two coats of paint to the windows and trim, and a single coat of paint the porch overhang. On the third day they applied a second coat to the porch overhang, painted the shutters, and stained the three stairwells and adjacent fences. They stored ladders and tarps unobtrusively along the rear yard fence and apparently cleaned up every day as they worked because the ground surrounding the house was clean. The foreman was patient as we reconsidered changing the stain color.

I was looking for a reputable painting firm to spruce up the outside of my home and ended up choosing Hömm. From start to finish, this was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had with any contractor as a homeowner. I instantly knew from my initial meeting with Andres that I’d be in good hands. He returned my call within the day and was at my house the next morning to do a walk-around, during which we discussed various options for the exterior painting work, including cleaning the aluminum siding. He was very thoughtful, making suggestions as appropriate and never pushing any sort of up-sell. I had a proposal in my hands just a day or two later, with everything clearly laid-out. They use an E-sign service, making the whole acceptance process quite easy, and I was on the calendar for their next available slot. Description Of Work: Hӧmm restored the exterior of our 2-story wooden, New England Saltbox house. The previous owners painted over the stained cedar siding. We had the peeling paint stripped off and the siding sanded down and stained. Hӧmm also repaired or replaced rotten window and door trim and repaired 2 wooden doors. They painted all window and door frames and the doors. They caulked all joints between siding and trim. During the job they removed the downspouts and all screens which they reinstalled upon completion.
I wish there were more companies like Hӧmm in this area. They are among the very best of those I’ve had work on my properties in Northern Virginia over nearly 20 years. They did an excellent job of making our house look new again and pay unparalleled attention to customer satisfaction. Andres Matheu, the owner, came to assess our job. He gave an estimate for the siding work, stating that the actual cost would be based on time and materials. He provided options for repainting or stripping and staining the siding. While it was more expensive, we opted for returning the house to its original stained finish. After resolving the details of the contract, the crew arrived to work on June 28. This was a big project spanning 4 weeks during the summer of 2016. The workers generally arrived between 8am and 9am and worked until 5pm or 6pm or even later during the final stages of the project. The crew of about 3-6 (depending on the day) was courteous and hard-working. The foreman clearly communicated any issues as the project progressed and was dedicated to my satisfaction as a customer. As the job began, I kept approximate count of worker hours to understand what the project was costing. When I received an accounting different from my own from the owner and expressed concern, I was provided with a daily report of hours worked at the end of each work day from there on. (It turned out I was not always aware of the size the crew each day.) The project did cost substantially more than the original estimate, but that was in large part due to our choice of a lighter stain color than Andres had in mind when estimating the project cost. The lighter color required finer and more extensive attention to preparing the surface of the cedar siding for stain. We were warned of this trade-off before choosing the stain color. After we received the final invoice, the crew returned for a morning to finish installing screens, clean up the grounds and attend to miscellaneous details including installing new flood light bulbs for us while they were up on the ladders. Based on my experience, I can highly recommend Hӧmm for any exterior painting, carpentry and/or staining project. While the cost of our project was higher than expected, it was worth the extra money to achieve the superior results Hӧmm delivered. Thank you Andres and everyone else at Hӧmm.

The team was on time, courteous and knowledgeable. I was given status reports on a regular basis. Progress was at a good pace, considering the weather. The final step of staining was initiated with a test patch on the house for proper color match. Once approved, the staining stage went forward on a timely manner. Final steps of trim painting, touch up and clean up was all complete and in the expected timeframe. The final cost was below the estimate and within our expectations. A job well done.

Description Of Work: Remediation of exterior lead based paint and complete exterior painting of my residence.
My residence is in excess of 100 years old and has wood siding. It had not been repainted for approximately 20 years prior to EPA Rules regarding lead based paint. The old paint was peeling and in many places was down to bare wood. It tested positive in several places for lead based paint. After interviewing several painting companies, Homm was the only one to describe to me the EPA requirements for re-mediating exterior lead based paint. Andres Matheu, the owner, clearly explained the new EPA Rules and how his company complied with them in practice. His crew did the most thorough preparation that I have ever seen. I had independently researched products for encapsulation of lead based paint and was particularly interested in ECOBOND LBP paint to be used as a primer. Andres took my suggestion and investigated the product from a professional point of view. He concluded that it would be appropriate for my residence and used it as a pre-primer to seal the residual lead based paint and the many places that preparation had taken the paint down to bare wood. After completing several exterior repairs, Homm applied their basic primer and two coats of exterior white paint. I am extremely satisfied with the result. Our first contact was with Andres Matheu, who provided the initial estimate, and who was very clear about details, including different types of paint we might use, methods they would use to address existing mildew and wood rot, and procedures that might be necessary for lead abatement (house was built in 1920, and exterior tests were all positive). Hömm was neither the lowest nor the highest bid we received, but we felt they were the most thorough in anticipating the needs of the job, and very up-front about safety and certifications needed. We anticipated there might be delays due to weather, and so the few we had weren’t an issue for us (we had an experience with a different company some years ago that was rushed through bad weather, so we were more interested in having it done right). There was a weather delay in the job immediately preceding mine so I was delayed a week. They were always on time, professional and very neat. The installation of the crown molding was excellent. I purchased it and had it delivered to my home waiting for them. Andres gave me an accurate estimate of what I needed to order and in fact, I had enough left over to do another bedroom which I will have them do on another job. The crew was always very careful and respectful of my furnishings and covered everything with new, clean plastic and used tarps on the wood floors. I moved all of my fragile items and art work to two bedrooms which were not included in this job in order to facilitate a clearer work area for them. You can’t escape the dust from sanding which does drift everywhere, but I was already planning on doing a thorough deep cleaning when they finished. The crew was neat, clean and always cheerful and polite. They worked all day and only took a lunch break. Their attention to detail on the trim work was wonderful and all the walls and ceilings look lovely. I found no sloppy paint drips anywhere. I’m extremely pleased with the outcome and will definitely have them return to complete two bedrooms with crown molding and fresh paint. Worth the price which I felt was very reasonable as it included all paint and labor. The job was completed in three days total. I highly recommend this company for a quality job. I was relocating to NoVA from Manhattan and I signed up for Angie’s List to find painters for my new construction townhouse in Vienna, to paint the complete interior. When I called Homm, someone picked up right away, and within 2 days, I had a full detailed estimate emailed to me. The price was reasonable, and I was pleased to see they had really taken detailed measurements to ensure the estimate was correct and there would be no surprises when the bill was due. Also, I emailed Homm the paint colors and they handled getting the paint no problem— I enjoyed it being so hassle free. On the day of the job, three well-mannered gentleman showed up and immediately got to work. It was supposed to be a two day job, but on the first day, I was informed it would take an extra 1/2 day. I was very pleased that they told me the first morning, so I could make other arrangements to allow for this extra 1/2 day. And I was also pleased that they felt comfortable asking for more time up front in order to do the job right. Throughout the job, the painters were respectful of our space, and we felt comfortable leaving them at the house unsupervised while we went to do local errands. We’d come home and find them all working hard (no fooling around) and singing. The owner was very conscientious in getting back to me after I contacted him (based on Angie’s List rating) and set up a time to meet me and go over the job. We both recognized that the extent of carpentry work could not be fully assessed until some boards were removed, so in the estimate this was to be billed for time and materials. Got a comprehensive proposal which fully specified the work and the cost (and estimated cost of carpentry repair) within a day of meeting. Since the company was very busy as a result of its high Angie’s List rating, the work could not commence for several weeks. However, when advised that I was having an event at the end of June, Homm went the extra mile and got its crew over at the beginning of the last week of June. The crew worked very hard and continuously for three days. Since I was home I could see the level of care and craftsmanship, as well as the extent of the dry rot that was uncovered. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the owner, his foremen and the workmen. They did an outstanding job. The cost was somewhat more than estimated, but reasonable considering the extent of extra carpentry required as a result of the dry rot. Description Of Work: Homm painted my exterior in June. This involved replacing some rotted fascia as well as painting all of the trim, doors and the front porch. They also replaced the floor of my deck and restained the deck and a side porch.
Homm painted my interior in November. This required repair to a ceiling that had a leak as well as caulking the bathtub to prevent future leaks. It also involved a lot of pre-painting prep work like patching holes and caulking crown molding. They painted the entire first floor except the kitchen, the stairwell and wrought iron bannister, the upstairs hall and the master bedroom and sitting room.
Andres also helped me with color selection. When the dining room color was not as expected, they helped with a new color selection and repainted the room.
I needed to have the exterior completed and the deck repaired and refinished in a fairly short time period. Andres worked with me to make sure that it got done. He kept me informed at all times about the scheduling and the progress. The result was a beautiful almost new deck and a great painting job on the rest of the exterior that needed painting.
The interior work was equally great and completed much more quickly that I anticipated. In addition, they cleaned up thoroughly there were virtually no drops or smears of paint anywhere. Painters I have used in the past have left little drops and smears all over.
When they finished with the dining room. I really didn’t like the color and Roger, the team supervisor, worked with me to select a new color. This involved getting two samples and painting patches for me to review and then repainting the entire room. This was done cheerfully and quickly. They still finished all of the work in two days.

Description Of Work: Homm power-washed our two-story shingled home, as well as our patio and walkways. They then stained the shingles, and painted the wood trim and shutters. They repaired and replaced wooden railings and trim as needed.
Based on recommendations we found on Angie’s List, we asked three contractors to provide cost estimates for painting the exterior of our shingled house. Andres Mathieu, the head of Homm, came himself, examined the exterior very carefully and described in detail how his team would proceed with the power-washing, repairs and painting (actually, staining) of the house: the process, the materials, and the timing.
Homm’s estimate was in the middle of the three bids, but was the more reasonable of the bids that promised the highest quality job.
All of the painters and powerwashers were polite, pleasant, efficient and professional, but the team’s lead carpenter, Roger, deserves special mention. When Andres gave us the estimate, he had advised us that a carpenter would look at the all of the wood and the shutters and that the carpenter’s charges for lumber, materials and labor would be in addition to the estimate, at a published rate. Roger balanced cost and quality considerations as we discussed how to replace or repair deteriorating wood in trim or railings. As a result of Roger’s expertise, we now have railings and trim that won’t need to be replaced every few years, as we have had to do in the past.
We had several questions for Andres in the course of the week, and found that he always responded within the day. He remained accessible and responsive even after the job was completed.
The Homm’s team did exactly what Andres had described, and did it to perfection. The staining is uniform and reached into the interstices between shingles, the edges where the shingles meet woodwork are perfect, plants near the house were gently tied back so that the painters could access the house, and no mess was left behind on any day nor at the end of the job.
In sum, the whole experience was pleasant and calm, and the product is top-notch. And we have a two-year limited warranty should a relevant problem develop. We recommend Homm most highly.

Description Of Work: I have used Homm Certified Painting Systems for both the interior and exterior (at different times) of my townhome and was very pleased with the results. They came out to take a look at the house and were very professional in their inspection and detail oriented in their quote. The work they did was completed as expected, on time, and on cost. Their quote price was excellent (the least expensive of the quotes I received for my exterior – and they came in at my budgeted amount for the interior). I found Andre, the person we worked with, was a bit gruff at the beginning, but I understood he was being methodical and his results spoke for themselves. For our exterior, I shared part of a wall with my neighbor, and Homm coordinated with both of us to complete the work. Their workers started on time and ended on time – and were well supervised.

Andre came out to give a quote on the exterior of our townhome. I described what he and my neighbor wanted and he talked with my neighbor, as well. After he gave us a quote, we compared with the other quotes we received, and not only was the work comparable, if not better detailed than the others, their price was outstanding. Homm estimated the amount of time it would take, and then scheduled the date to do the painting with my neighbor and me. I took the day off to supervise, but I really didn’t need to. The workers showed up on time, along with the supervisor and knew exactly what needed to be done. Andre came about midday to check to see how things were progressing, and I pointed out a few spots I wanted looked at. They even came back and repainted my gate, even though I realized it was actually a good job (after it dried). They handled some additions added by my neighbor easily. The cleaned up, and everything looked great at the end. The billing was easy, and I was very impressed with the process from beginning to end.
For the interior, Andre came out again and measured the area I needed. He offered some advice on the paint scheme and what areas needed paint (he had some great advice). He quickly followed up with an quote, and then scheduled the date (he came in at the amount I had in mind). Homm’s worker came and took care of all of the painting (there was one mistake which required some additional paint, but he quickly pointed out – and truthfully, the mistake was my own fault, as I changed my mind at the last minute). When we asked them to work on a Saturday to help us meet a critical deadline for other stuff we were doing they gladly came and put in a full day’s work. When we needed them to show up a little earlier one morning so we could get out of the house to make early morning appointments they were here a half hour before that, at 7:30am.

The walls look fantastic with our new window treatments. We will definitely be using Homm again. Our house will need to be fully painted on the exterior in the spring of 2012. While I always competitively shop prices and capabilities, I’m sure I will be using Homm again. Mr. Matheiu is very professional in his work, and his team of painters follow his example. Because it rained on the first day, we were fortunate to have two teams painting our rooms. They worked fast, were always polite and made every effort to accomodate any touch-up changes I wanted.

Description Of Work: Homm Certified Painting Systems did exterior painting on my house. It required a lot of scrapping and prep work. Some carpentry repairs were required (replacement of fascia with PVC, replacement of two rotted window sills, replacement of two front porch pillars) and the work was done very well. The cost of the repairs was very reasonable.
I found them on Angie’s List and received a 10% Angie’s List discount from them. They were very responsive and easy to deal with despite the rainy weather this fall. The quality of their work is good. I had got a lot of quotes and theirs was a good quote. I figured that the cost would grow, and it did grow, but I think that I still got value for what I got done. I would use them again.

I purchased an Angie’s List Big Deal coupon for $565 to have three rooms painted. Andres made an appointment to come to my house to measure and plan for the job. My coupon covered the painting for my living room, home office, and hallway – and then I paid extra for the foyer (with high ceiling), stairways, and another hallway, as well as for the paint itself. Andres made helpful suggestions for paint type and colors, as I was having difficulty making a decision. Because of my work commitments, I needed to postpone the work and Andres was very gracious about that. In the interim, he promptly returned my calls and emails, and scheduled the work at a time convenient to both of us. The day of the job, Omar and his two associates arrived on time, and Omar walked around with me reviewing the details of the job they would do. They moved the furniture, and covered everything. They prepped before painting, caulking gaps on trim and repairing cracks and holes in the walls. Andres stopped by in the afternoon to see how everything was going. They finished all the painting in one day – two coats of paint, cleaned up and moved furniture back in place. They even cleaned out the basement set-tub after washing their brushes, and swept my front sidewalk! They were very professional and I am pleased with their service.

Arrived both days on time, nothing broken when they moved furniture, minimal leftover paint drips (literally I can think of 3 spots, all on highly polished surfaces so very easy to remove), two areas in kitchen where masking tape was left on (probably best anyway since the paint might have peeled based on the area they were left). Team leader, Omar, was very professional and helpful. I was having difficult time deciding how to paint Mstr BR, he and I discussed and re-discussed and he helped me make the right decision but never made me feel like he was pushing his preference on me. Price was unbelievable!! I mean, seriously, that many rooms for $2100? Who does that?! Just an overall excellent experience!

We found Homm through an Angie’s list “Deal of the Day”. We then met with Andres for a scope of work review and proposal. We initially thought the price was a bit higher than expected, but the work done was absolutely worth the cost. These rooms are high use areas for our lifestyle and the walls have taken some abuse over the years since the last painting. The house is also 45 years old and has settled a bit, requiring some surface prep work in addition to basic painting. The job was completed to our satisfaction. Communication with the foreman was very professional and easy, even for mid-job issues we wanted to make sure would be addressed (they all were). The Homm team was conscientious about our home and belongings and did a very professional job. The rooms look great! We will definitely consider using Homm as we look to update other rooms in our house in the future.

Description Of Work: contacted Homm to do some repairs to all 3 levels of my home caused by Snowmaggedon 2010 – an ice dam had caused water damage to ceilings and walls. Andres contacted me immediately to come out and do an estimate, using the exact specific paints we had chosen (Benjamin Moore Aura and Natura). He was very accomodating in providing documentation for my insurance company due to this being an insurance claim. Once I was ready to start work, he was able to schedule me within a day. A crew of 3 headed by Omar came out the first day to do the painting and drywall work in most of the rooms, and Andres stopped by to see how things were going (which was a pleasant surprise). The second day Omar did carpentry for the window sill in the basement and repainted that as well. The moved furniture carefully and cleaned up carefully after themselves.
Very well…Omar and his team were very meticulous, and definitely went above and beyond in a couple of areas. He painted some wood trim for me that I had not gotten around to painting myself (about 2 inches or so) and also did a fabulous job refinishing a rather ugly basement window frame, including removing some old silicone waterproofing foam and re-caulking the window. While they were not the cheapest quote I received, their level of service and professionaliism made it worth every penny.
